The Rule of 5
|
1. |
Open the book to the middle and select a full page of text. |
|
2. |
Read the page (aloud if at all possible). |
|
3. |
Put one (1) finger up for every word you can not easily prounounce or do not know. |
|
4. |
If you can put five (5) fingers up on one page, the book is too difficult to read by yourself. |
|
5. |
If you do not get any fingers up, but are reading very slowly and decoding almost every word, you probably will not enjoy the book. |
"Take a book and read a page.
Count the words that you can't say.
If your score is five or more,
Save that book for another day."
